Athletic Program

Go Wildcats!

The philosophy of the St. Aloysius Academy Athletic Program is to make available to the athlete diverse opportunities that are consistent with the spiritual and educational goals of the Academy. Our program encourages each student-athlete to recognize his abilities to play fair and by the rules, and to respect his teammates, his coaches, his opponents, the officials and himself. St. Aloysius Academy has an excellent reputation in athletics and offers an impressive array of sports during the academic year. The Academy is a member of the Catholic Youth Organization - CYO. CYO sports enables the partnership of parents, coaches, teachers and other leaders to manage and support a sports program that allows a student to grow in their relationship with God and come to better understand themselves and the Catholic faith.

Fall Sports

St. Aloysius fields a 5th and 6th grade Junior Varsity and a 7th and 8th grade Varsity soccer team, a 5th and 6th grade Junior Varsity and a 7th and 8th grade Varsity football team, as well as a 3rd and 4th grade flag football club and a 1st and 2nd grade soccer club. There is also a cross country team for 4th-8th graders.

Winter Sports

The Academy has as many Junior Varsity and Varsity basketball teams as needed. Everyone makes a team. There is a basketball club for younger boys.

Spring Sports

Four sports are offered with an option of playing two sports in the spring season. The Academy fields a 5th and 6th grade Junior Varsity and a 7th and 8th grade Varsity baseball team, a 5th through 8th grade Junior Varsity and Varsity lacrosse team, a 4th through 8th grade tennis team and 4th through 8th grade track team.

The teams play in the Philadelphia Archdiocesan CYO league, as well as in competition with other area independent schools. The Academy has a large gymnasium, a utility gym, a football field, lacrosse and soccer field, two baseball diamonds, two outdoor basketball courts and two tennis courts.

With the addition of two tennis courts, the Academy formed a tennis team. Tennis lessons area offered as an after school activity.

The Academy offers basketball, karate and sports camps in the summer. In addition, the Union Soccer organization runs a camp on campus.

On a Saturday in October, Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer and football teams and the flag football team compete with local rivals and celebrate our StAA Wildcat Nation. This all-day long celebration gathers young and old, current students and their families, alumni, grandparents, and faculty to honor all that is St. Aloysius Academy.

This annual tradition is a mirror image of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. 6th-8th graders are entered into NCAA-like brackets and compete daily at morning recess on a child-size basketball hoop in a classroom setting for the glory of becoming the Bucketball Champion, a very coveted award. This fun activity sponsors a school-wide outreach opportunity. Part of the Final Four competition is a dunking exhibition by 2nd graders.

Catholic Schools Week Faculty v. 8th Grade Volleyball Game

This is a tradition and it is always up for grabs as to who will out serve - 8th graders or faculty.

Athlete-Scholar Scholarship

There is an Athlete-Scholar Scholarship available to new students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Details are found below.

Athlete's Prayer

Lord, help me to do my best in this game today.
Help me work towards victory, but accept an honest defeat.
Help me respect each player as well as the rules of play.
Don't let me give up no matter what odds I meet.
And, Lord, teach me to play life's game one day at a time
knowing You are my true coach and guide.
